Carrier & location

Every US number's area code and prefix are assigned by NANPA to a carrier and rate center. We show the assigned carrier, city and state, and whether it's a wireless, landline or toll-free range.

FCC complaint history

The FCC publishes every unwanted-call complaint as open data — 1.8 million and counting. If your caller is in there, you'll see how many complaints, what kind, and how recent.

First-hand reports

People who answered tell you what the call actually was — IRS impersonation, fake warranty, debt collector, or a legitimate business. Add yours to warn the next person.

Reverse phone lookup FAQs

How do I find out who called me from a phone number?

Enter the 10-digit number in the lookup box above. WhoCalledLookup shows the number's carrier and home city/state from official NANPA numbering records, how many complaints the FCC has logged against it, and first-hand reports from other people who received calls from the same number.

Is this reverse phone lookup really free?

Yes. Every lookup is free and requires no sign-up. The site is supported by advertising. We do not sell people-search reports or charge for results.

Can you tell me the name of the person who called?

No — WhoCalledLookup is a number-reputation service, not a people-search site. We show the carrier, location, complaint history and community reports for the number, which is usually enough to decide whether to call back. We never publish personal information about individuals.

What are the FCC complaint counts?

The Federal Communications Commission publishes consumer complaints about unwanted calls, including the caller's number, as public open data. When a number you look up appears in that data, we show how many complaints it has, what type (robocall vs telemarketing), and how recent they are.

How do I stop robocalls?

Register on the National Do Not Call Registry (donotcall.gov), enable your carrier's free call-screening service (AT&T ActiveArmor, Verizon Call Filter, T-Mobile Scam Shield), and report unwanted calls to the FCC. Our guides section walks through each step.
